Getting
Permissions without Royalty charge: When we (The Campus Store) ask permission to
copy articles or chapters, publishers view us as a "Retail" entity.
They view this as an opportunity to generate income. They typically
will charge the maximum fees allowed by their company or rightholders.
As an Instructor (or Professor) who makes Textbook
Adoption decisions, you have more power to waive fees than
anyone! By writing to the Publishers directly yourself, you
have a greater chance of obtaining a Gratis (free) permission
to copy the articles or chapters you want.
If you are willing to take a little time to
write for the larger portions of your Course Packet, you can
save your students a lot of money in royalty fees. We are happy
to provide you with addresses/faxes of publishers, or you can
look them up by following this link: http://www.publist.com/browse.html
To make it even easier, you can copy the Sample
permission letter below.
